When should I worry about fleas and ticks?

This depends very much on the weather, which as we all know can be quite unpredictable in Ohio.  However, the time is fast approaching when you should consider starting your pet on a flea/tick prevention program.  Flea preventatives should be used from the time that the ground thaws (March or April) until it freezes again and is going to stay frozen for the duration of the winter (November or December).

There are several good products available that are safe and effective.  Which particular product you choose depends on a number of factors, including how much time your pet spends outdoors, whether you take him camping or hiking in wooded areas and whether he/she is allergic to fleas, among other things.  Our staff can help you to decide which product is right for your particular situation and can explain the pros and cons of the different products so that you can make an informed decision.

Prevention is always more preferable than trying to get rid of fleas and ticks after they already are a problem.  Please call our office or contact us via e-mail if you have any questions.  We will be glad to help.
